Why your phone gets hot during games, and what to do about it

We mention heat and battery in almost every review, so it's worth explaining what's actually going on. When a game gets your phone warm, it's usually the graphics chip working hard to push high frame rates and detailed 3D scenes. More frames and more detail mean more power, and power turns into heat.

The good news is that many games give you controls for this, buried in settings. Look for frame-rate caps, graphics quality presets, and battery-saver modes. Dropping from 60 to 30 frames per second is often invisible in a strategy or casual game and can make a real difference to temperature.

Screen brightness matters more than people think, especially with games built around glowing neon visuals. So does playing while charging, which stacks two sources of heat. If a game runs hot for you, try lowering brightness first, it's the easiest fix.
